Authors: Roy T. Matthews, Dewitt Platt, Ray Matthews, and F. Dewitt Platt

Review of THE WESTERN HUMANITIES
This book is an excellent resource for college students interested in humanities. This was the text used for my Humanities class. It was very easy to read and I was able digest the material covered without falling asleep. The photos are excellent and the captions are detailed. This is an excellent book well worth the asking price.

What Is This Madness: Ride & Tie: The Invention and Growth of a Sport
Published in Paperback by Synergistic Pr (December, 1985)
Authors: Bud Johns, Lorraine Rorke, and Ray Morris
Average review score:

THE book on Ride & Tie
This is THE original book about the sport of Ride & Tie by THE originator of the sport. Bud John's account of the history of Ride & Tie, from his conception of the sport in 1970 to the hay day of the sport in the 1980's is entertaining and inspiring. Many of the original "greats" of Ride & Tie are introduced in the book, and many of them are still Riding and Tying today! If you have ever been curious about the sport, or have never heard of it, or are an old hand at it (but then, if you are an old hand, you already own this book) this book will give you an enjoyable introduction to the sport and how it works...

What Shall I Grow
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Authors: Ray Gibson, Fiona Watt, and Jenny Tyler
Average review score:

Great Growing Activity Ideas!
This is a great book with really interesting ideas for growing plants! I really like the format, and the easy, step-by-step instructions and pictures. It is full of unique projects, and they would be great for science experiments about growing plants! One of my favorite projects in this book is growing alfalfa in the shapes of hearts, stars, or whatever shapes you can think of. I would definitely recommend this book for parents and teachers.

When elephants last in the dooryard bloomed : celebrations for almost any day in the year
Published in Unknown Binding by Hart-Davis, MacGibbon ()
Author: Ray Bradbury
Average review score:

Bradbury? A poet? I was surprised...
...and then delighted! Bradbury's poetry is a mixture of fancy, personal history, articulate emotion, cleverness, history and wit. Special bonus? Sly literary, historical, spiritual, scientific and anthropological references that you pull out of the poem delightedly, with the feeling that you've solved a clever puzzle. I have since read and reread this book, and have collected the rest of his poetry books (not easy, they are hard to find).

Where's Jess
Published in Paperback by Centering Corporation (June, 1982)
Authors: Joy Johnson, Merv Johnson, Shari Borum, Jody Goldstein, and Ray Goldstein
Average review score:

Beyond Words
I was almost too young to understand my sister's early death. But I was not too young to understand this book and how it helped me. It is about the same situation I was in. A small boy's sibling dies and he notices she is gone. The parents tell him what death is about and how it is alright to remember and talk about Jess. I was only four and could not quite read, but my mom read me Where's Jess almost every night. This is a helpful book for children and parents.

Whitewater Kayaking (Adventure Sports Series)
Published in Paperback by Stackpole Books (February, 1989)
Author: Ray Rowe
Average review score:

A excellent beginner's guide to white water kayaking
I bought this book some eight years ago when I started whitewater paddling. 127 pages long, it really is an A to Z of whitewater kayaking covering areas such as equipment selection; understanding river features; basic & advanced kayak control & technique; training & streching techniques; safety & rescue; competive disciplines.

Its all presented in an easy to read format, with a step-by-step approach, and plenty of color photographs and sketchs that illustrate the ideas and concepts very well.

The only negative thing I would find is that some parts, particularily in relation to equipment selection seem slighly dated now. However I would definitely recommend this book to any kayaking novice. It is an excellent introduction to the sport.
